Welcome from the Superintendent

July 21, 2019

Red Tornado Staff, Family, and Friends,

Welcome to school year 2019-20! The start of a new school year is always an exciting time, not only for students, but for families and our staff as well. In this spirit, it is my pleasure to welcome the students, families and staff of Clinton Public Schools back, ready to continue the important work of our school mission – 100% Graduation College and Career ready.

Clinton Public School  staff will return on August 1. All staff members will kick the year off at the annual “Clinton Public School Foundation Back to School Breakfast”, 8:00 a.m. in  the Middle School cafetera. Immediately following breakfast we will welcome new staff members and highlight priorities for the year.

As we begin this year, we renew our focus on supporting the most critical factor impacting student achievement – the staff that works with students. The CPS CSI (Continuous School Improvement) Plan will be in year three.  We will continue to work the plan and provide teachers the support and professional development needed to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

Beginning with the 2019 School year all teachers starting salary will be over $40,000;  this includes the $2,000 Christmas Bonus/Staff Development Stipend. Returning certified staff members will receive a $1,000 retention stipend. Support employees will receive a minimum $.50 per hour raise, $250 retention stipend, and a $1,500 Christmas Bonus/Staff Development Stipend.

Nearly 2,200 Preschool – 12th grade students will return to school on August 8, eager for the opportunity to see friends, participate in a variety of sports and activities, and engage in learning. Our staff renews their commitment to unlocking the potential of every student to help them be successful in this work.

I feel a renewed sense of excitement for the start of this school year because of the energy our students, staff, parents and community bring to our school community and all the possibilities that working together provide. Our school district excels because of this collective effort, focus and commitment. I look forward to the work we will accomplish this year.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kevin W. Hime, Superintendent
